Cold Laser Therapy
What is it and how does it work?
What is it and how does it work?
Cold Laser Therapy, also called Low Level Laser Therapy, is a treatment that uses light to accelerate the healing process. It can be used to treat pain, swelling, and muscle spasms, and to improve overall function in patients who suffer from a variety of conditions. [1]
These lasers aren't scary
Cold lasers are handheld devices, usually the size of a flashlight. We place them directly over the problem area for several minutes. The light emitted doesn't cause heating, and, except for the occasional beep from our machine, this therapy is silent. You won't notice any changes during the treatment, but you can expect big changes after a few treatments. [2]
When the light energy reaches the target area, it is absorbed and interacts with the light sensitive elements in the cell. This process can be compared to photosynthesis in plants, where sunlight is absorbed by plants and then converted to usable energy so that the plant can grow. When your cells absorb this light energy, it initiates a series of events that accelerate metabolism and, as a result, reduce pain and inflammation.
